The aim of meditation is to achieve an absorbed state of mind through concentration and focus on a physical or mental object, usually the breath. Meditation is a way of calming the mind/body, making it more peaceful, balanced and focused. The mind passes through various stages of subtleties. With perseverance and daily practice obstacles are eliminated one by one resulting in a deep abiding sense of wellbeing. Meditation sessions are now run in "‘The Shed" at the Bodhi Tree. You do not have to be a Buddhist to participate and benefit: Mindfulness MeditationTuesday Mornings – 9.00 am = 11.30 am Buddhist meditative practices provide a path to individual transformation and stress release. Practices teach us to look within ourselves for inner peace and happiness. By developing awareness, concentration, mindfulness and insight we deepen our wisdom and compassion, enabling us to improve the quality of our lives and relationships. A fundamental practice in Buddhist meditation is mindfulness of breathing and mindfulness of body sensations. These practices teaches us to be fully present to each moment, not holding on to the past or grasping for the future. Mindfulness trainings are guidelines for everyday life and assist in the development of non-attachment to views, direct experimentation, appropriate action and skillful means all of which enhance the quality of our daily living.
Relaxation/Stress Management MeditationSunday Evenings – 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm Studies have found that stress reduction meditation leades to significant decreases in oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide elimination, respiration rate, cardiac output, heart rate, and blood pressure. It is also associated with more restful and qualitative sleep and an improved sense of health and wellbeing. These physiological changes result in a condition of relaxed wakefulness enabling people to be more fully present and productive in their lives and relationships. Cost: A gold coin donation is requested to help cover costs and refreshments.
Re-earthing Ritual – Recitation of the Fourteen Mindfulness Practices of InterbeingLast Sunday of each month - 10.30 am – 12.30 pm (please call to confirm attendance the day before) This meditation combines the recitation of the Fourteen Mindfulness Practices devised by Thich Nhat Hanh with the ritual of the Council of All Beings developed by environmentalists John Seed and Joanna Macey. The meditation/ritual integrates traditional Buddhist morality with core Buddhist principles of non-harming and respect for all life forms and the elements that sustain life. This powerful practice helps people reconnect with the earth, and develop a deeper understanding of their interconnectedness to all living things. Participants leave with a renewed sense of joy, commitment, inspiration and determination to practice non-harming and live their lives lovingly, respectfully and authentically. Cost: $5.00 to cover materials and refreshments.

He lives in wisdom
who sees himself in all and all in
him,
whose love for the Lord of Love has
consumed
every selfish desire and sense
craving
tormenting the heart. Not agitated
by grief, nor hankering after
pleasure
he lives free from lust and fear and
anger
fettered no more by selfish
attachments
he is not elated by good fortune
nor depressed by bad. Such is the
seer…
(The Bhagavad Gita)
